Analyzing Two Different Commercials

My name is Paige and in class, we were told to find two different advertisements and analyze them. Here are the ones that I chose and what I found out about them when analyzing them.

For my first advertisement, I chose an old one for a product called "I Can't Believe It’s Not Butter Spray." The commercial is set in a fantasy world of the lady in the beginning. It is colorful with bright colors and there is an attractive man waiting for her. Soon they talk about the product as if it is just too good to be true. The narrator sets it up to be in this fantasy world and then the woman becomes fascinated with this product like it is the most amazing this in the world. The man introduces it to the audience and the narrator voice comes back and talks about this product saying things like it has lower calories and is better than normal butter. It still has that romantic/fantasy type music playing in the background. Soon it ends saying that it is not a fantasy as it is true. This commercial mainly uses emotions to hook the reader in as they are all fascinated by this product as fascination and a bit of love is used in this commercial. They also talk about the product a bit as it will be best to use when you cook any meal and that it is even very easy to use. I feel as though this could have convinced some people back when this commercial was made as it is an older commercial. It would attract more people that would want it to be easy to use and that it is better than other products. They do get that out to those people as it is still being sold. It is an easy to use product that would attract other people. Overall, it is a good ridiculous commercial for its time.

For my last advertisement, I chose a product called “Flex Tape.” Flex tape is more of an infomercial type advertisement. The music used is a bit of exciting type music as he is trying to sell that this product can do many things for bad situations. The setting changes as it goes to Phil Swift (the man selling the product) in a workshop-type place with the product everywhere, to places like the ocean and the homes of others. All of them show what “major damage” you can fix with flex tape. He uses several examples of the “toughest conditions” where flex tape would be easy to use. He mainly uses the words “major damage” as if flex tape can fix all of them. He goes from leaky pipes, to sticking underwater, to being able to hold a boat together on the water after sawing in in half. He also will use epic movements like slapping a piece of it right on a giant hole that is leaking out a lot of water. The tape even stays on. I think this product could definitely attract anyone who struggles with these problems as it is easy to use. It says that you could use it on anything and would be great for many outdoor and inside projects and things that need to be fixed. It could be a better product than duck tape when used for other things. People may think that it is a better alternative. In the end, people may actually think about buying this if the commercial wasn't so ridiculous.

These were my analyses on these two commercials. Both of them were ridiculous, but definitely could convince some people to by their product.
